If you are planning a trip to Chile, there are many things you will want to schedule to see and do. However, it can be tough to see everything you wish in the limited amount of time you have for your trip. Here is a list of places to visit in Chile during your time there.
Located at the southeasternmost point of the Polynesian triangle, this Chilean territory offers several archaeological sites to see. Among these sites are over 900 moai, or monumental statues, most of which are in the shape of huge heads. They were carved by the original inhabitants of the island, the Rapa Nui, during the 10th to 16th centuries. Easter Island was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
This is a colonial house located in Santiago that was built in 1769 by Joseph de la Vega. The house is now home to the Museum of Santiago, or Museo de Santiago in Spanish, and allows visitors to explore the history of the city from the Pre-Columbian era to contemporary times. The two-story house features a clay-tiled roof, window balconies, and deep red walls.
If you are looking for a beautiful warm beach on which to relax, one of the best places to visit in Chile is the seaside resort of Bahia Inglesa. The white sandy beaches are a sharp contrast to the black rock of the area. Swimming, fishing, and windsurfing are some of the activities that you can take part in, or you can just order a cocktail and enjoy the hot, sunny weather.
Bosque de Fray Jorge National Park
Located close to the Atacama Desert, this national park is best known for having the northernmost rain forests. The fog from the country’s Pacific coastline helps to supply the moisture needed by the subtropical plants to survive the semiarid scrublands that surround the area. The park was founded in 1941, and UNESCO made it a biosphere reservation in 1977.
If you go to Punta Arenas, another of the places to visit in Chile that are must-sees is Penguin Island. From November to March, over 350,000 Magellanic penguins nest on this island sanctuary. You can take a ferry ride from Punta Arenas to visit these waddling creatures in their habitat.
Chile is a very diverse country and these five places to visit are only a few of the many you will want to see and experience.
